Safari na Windows a iPhone jako tenký klient?

Apple dnes představil menší balík novinek. Nepřišla ani nová generace iMacu, ani se (po vzoru Klikni :-)) neodhodlal k doplnění své palety webových služeb .Mac o kancelářský balík Googlu, ale přesto na dvě věci stojí za to upozornit.

Safari

Prohlížeč Safari je na své domácí půdě OS X jasný král. Díky tomu je také třetí nejrozšířenější prohlížeč vůbec – snad až 5 procent, pravděpodobně na americkém trhu. U nás macy až tak populární nejsou, nicméně pokud mají 90 procent z uživatelů Applu, těch 5 procent to jednoduše vytvoří. Je zajímavé, že na této platformě zjevně nijak zvlášť neuspěl Firefox, ani jeho pojablečněná verze Camino (jaký je mezi nimi rozdíl jsem nikdy nepochopil, ovšem ani jsem to nepotřeboval :-)). O Opeře se ani netřeba zmiňovat.

A nyní se Safari dostalo na Windows. Huh, skutečně. Po iTunes a Quicktimu Apple doufá v úspěch převedení dalšího svého softwaru do prostředí cizího operačního systému. Safari by ve Woknech mělo fungovat i vypadat v podstatě snad identicky, tedy s designem OS X. Jeden háček – zkoušel jsem si Safari stáhnout a ani po reinstalaci a restartu se mi jej nepovedlo spustit. Problémy hlásí i další, takže pokud to Apple nazývá beta, pak to tentokrát asi plně splňuje obsah této nálepky.

Zůstává otázkou, proč se do toho Apple cpe. Trh prohlížečů pro Windows je myslím dosti saturovaný. Kraluje Explorer, jehož poslední verze už prostě není špatná, kdo chce alternativu, má zde Firefox, a kdo je úplně nenormální, žije s Operou. Safari oproti nim nemá prakticky žádnou výhodu, podobné rozhraní, podobné funkce, chybějící rozšíření, ale celkem tak nějak nastejno. Apple navíc není příliš internetová společnost, nemůže sledovat ani zájem tlačit uživatele Windows do svých webových služeb.

Jedinou údajnou výhodou Safari by tak měla být vyšší svižnost. Nemohl jsem vyzkoušet, ale v diskusích lidé píší, že kdepak. Možná jen porodní bolesti, ale Safari je prý dosti pomalé a pořád padá. Na druhou stranu je pravda, že právě rychlost by mě jednou mohla od Firefoxu odvést. Jedině ale pokud bych si s sebou mohl odnést alespoň rozšíření Google Reader Notifier, Linkification, Lištičku, Google Bookmarks Button, Greasemonkey.

Netuším, jak náročné je převést program z jedné platformy na druhou. Myslím si ovšem, že si Apple jednoduše pod dojmem úspěchu Safari na vlastní půdě prostě řekl, proč ne. Každé procento podílu prohlížeče je obrovsky cenné, prohlížeč je vstupní branou a může hrát velkou roli při směrování uživatelů na ta správná místa. Ostatně firmy jako Google štědře platí, tak proč to nezkusit a kdo ví, jak to dopadne?

Druhým argumentem může být, že aplikace Applu ve Windowsích jsou taková kukaččí vejce. Když člověk používá na hudbu iTunes s iPodem, bude telefonovat pomocí iPhone, v obýváku se mu objeví Apple TV a po internetu bude brouzdat se Safari… no ejhle, proč vlastně mít nějaké překlopené verze a nejít rovnou k originálu? Touto cestou mohou uživatelé přivyknout produktům Applu a nakonec si říci – dyť mě tu už vlastně nic nedrží. Většina uživatelů má stejně zájem jen o prohlížeč, kancelářské aplikace a mediální přehrávač. Že by tahle taktika mohla fungovat ukazují iPod – právě díky nim údajně raketově rostou prodeje Apple počítačů.

iPhone

Druhé oznámení se týká iPhonu. Děsně se na něj těším. Sice jej asi jen tak mít nebudu (ostatně bude lepší počkat si na další generace), ale snad alespoň na osahání by do českých Apple center časem mohly dorazit. iPhone může buď úplně vybouchnout, nebo změnit počítačový svět, myslím si to bez nadsázky. Na inovace v softwaru se soustředí kdekdo, ale hardwaru tomu nestačí. A nejde teď o nějaké parametry, ale o způsob používání těchto mašinek ve světě nových možností.

iPhone vybouchne, pokud to bude špatný stroj. Pokud se bude škrábat, pokud budu věčně umaštěný a nechutný, pokud to bude pomalý, po půl roce odporný křáp. Jen obtížně mohu uvěřit tomu, že iPhone půjde, tak jak je, používat propagovaným způsobem – chmátáním prsty. Nevím, prostě jsem ještě neviděl takovou věc, kterou by mohlo možno různě omačkávat a ona byla dál pěkné, čistá a čitelná.

Čím je iPhone revoluční je jednoduché – je to právě onen multitouch a obrovská obrazovka. Multitouch je přesně to rozhraní, které mobilní zařízení potřebují. Žádná tlačítka a joysticky, to je všechno hrozně protivné, neintuitivní a pomalé. Ne stylus ani nic podobného, co musí odněkud vyndat a držet v ruce. Rozhraní počítače s myší může konkurovat jedině něco tak přirozeného jako je multitouch. A časem možná nejen na mobilních zařízeních, ostatně podívejte se na některá úžasná videa v diskusi na Webtrhu. Multitouch digitální svět otevírá nové škále lidí – lidí, pro které je stále přirozenějším pohybem na něco šáhnout a otočit to, než jezdit krabičkou po stole a sledovat šipku na monitoru.

iPhone však bude uzavřen pro externí vývojáře. Myslím, že to je trochu logické, Apple prostě do svého jádra nechce nechat nikoho sahat. Ostatně většina lidí si jistě není schopna a ochotna cokoliv instalovat, vždyť i na normálních počítačích je to celkem problém. Jak tedy vyřešit nedostatek aplikací? iPhone bude svého druhu tenký klient.

Externí aplikace budou existovat, ale jedině webové. Budou mít ovšem rozsáhlý přístup k možnostem iPhonu, snad až po vytáčení čísla. iPhone tedy může být tou správnou mašinkou, která dodělá přechod z desktopu na web. Technologie (nebo lépe techniky?) jako AJAX budou iPhonem podporovány a vzhledem k boomu webových aplikací prakticky okamžitě uživatelé mají přístup k zajímavým produktům. A upřímně řečeno – řekl bych, že i k lepším, než jaké dnes pro mobily lze standardně najít. Takové Google Docs sice vedle Wordu nemají šanci, ale vedle mobilního Wordu?

Apple má zářivé období. Už za 18 dní se ukáže, jestli bude pokračovat.
